The hippocampus, a rare mythological sea horse having the forelegs of a horse and the tail of a fish, was a popular figure with most carousel carvers, circa 1900-1905.

Carved from boxwood with inlaid buffalo horn eyes and an ebony and sterling silver stand.

8.5 cm (3 3/8") Long, 6.2 cm (2 3/8") High.
